What are white horses?

Occasionally, when conditions are just right, white horses rise from the lakes in Northern Minnesota. It requires a cool evening, so the warm water vapor from the lake will condense into a heavy fog when it rises to meet the cool morning air. When the small clouds of fog tumble off the lake, driven by a summer breeze... the white horses run. It does not happen every day, and it only happens at sunrise, but when a day begins with the white horses, it always seems that something special, something good, is happening.

Despite its title, Waiting for White Horses is not about white ponies. The wait for white horses here only represents some sort of deeper acceptance of the chaos, and beauty, of life.
